What is Perlane?
Perlane is an FDA-approved dermal filler designed for the treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. Perlane is very similar to Restylane, with a few small differences. The primary difference is that Perlane is designed to treat deeper wrinkles than Restylane.
Other differences include:
- Slightly different formula
- Much larger particles
- Not to be used for lip enhancement
Perlane is provided in the same way as Restylane it is an injectable treatment. Because it is so similar to Restylane, many providers who offer one solution also offer the other. Perlane has been approved by the FDA for some uses.
How Do Perlane Injections Work?
Perlane is a dermal filler, meaning it is injected directly in to the target area. The primary solution utilized in Perlane is known as hyaluronic acid (HA). The HA solution is found naturally in the skin, but is lost as the facial aging process takes place.
A lack of hyaluronic acid can lead to:
- Loss of facial volume
Perlane is designed to address some of these issues through the injection of an HA solution, which is mixed with other helpful additives and a mild painkiller. The actual Perlane process is as follows:
- During an initial consultation, the target area is analyzed to see if Perlane is a suitable treatment option
- Perlane is injected in to the treatment area
- A small ice pack may be utilized to bring down swelling around the area
The entire Perlane treatment process takes only a few minutes and features very little downtime. A small amount of swelling is to be expected, and will subside in time. The effects of Perlane typically last around eight months and follow-up treatments are typically available.
